While we have a guide on How to Bulk Import New Students, this article focuses on resolving common problems during the import process.
Follow the recommendations below to ensure a smooth experience when adding your students.
When importing data from a spreadsheet, ensure you are using the correct separator options. If you encounter issues with the import, try experimenting with different separator options, such as commas, semicolons, or tabs. Changing the separator can sometimes help with importing data correctly.
Make sure you are pasting the data normally into the bulk importer. Using plain text pasting (e.g., CTRL + Shift + V) may cause issues with the import process. Instead, use the regular paste function (e.g., CTRL + V) to paste the data.
The bulk importer will generally provide error messages indicating any issues with the import. Pay close attention to these messages, as they can help you identify and correct problems with your data. Common issues may include missing or incorrect data, duplicates, or formatting errors.
To better understand these errors, let's delve deeper into the details, using the example students below.
In the example below, we purposely duplicated the record of Chris Student in rows 1 and 2.
In this particular example, we intentionally omitted Chris Student's username.
For other errors such as password and username requirements, simply click Start Over. You can then correct the data as needed and repeat the steps.
